The Silverdale Historical Society runs an number of activities and events throughout the year.

Pat Backley, an author born in England but now happily based in Orewa will talk on her life and books at the Silverdale Pioneer Village. Join us for tea or coffee in the Parsonage at 10.30 before Pat’s Talk in the Old Chapel.

Open to the Public/All Welcome,

She is passionate about people and has travelling the world, she has spent 70 years living a colourful and interesting life, and her books reflect these passions.


She has always been fascinated by social history and the lives of ordinary people and believes their stories should be told. “It is a way of honouring my ancestors. They have no voice, so I will make sure their stories are heard.”


Pat Backley has published 8 books, a mix of historical fiction, memoirs, travel, ancestry, and one little self-help book! She also contributes short stories to anthologies and articles to magazines, has co-hosted a virtual book fair and talks in schools as a volunteer for Inspiring the Future Aotearoa.

Enjoy a coffee and nibble in the Old Parsonage before exploring our historic houses including the Old Forge Blacksmith Shop and Old Pioneer Tools in the Sidwell Annex and the Bayes Building.
